Basel and Rospa United in thrilling draw

Sport  Date: 05 April 2012

The Vodacom Promotional League match between Basel FC and Rospa United at the Malamulele Stadium on Saturday ended in a 1-1 draw.

Although United were fighting it without three of their key players, they managed to match the hosts pound for pound in all departments. Basel were the first to blow the trumpet. The keeper of United, Mxolisi Ncube, abandoned his position and advanced out of the penalty box. He was caught off-guard by Livhuwani Netshiendeulu, whose volley bounced outside the box and landed inside the net.

Khaukanani Malwela of Basel was reprimanded with a card, following a dangerous tackle on the captain of United, Meshack Maphangule, in the 18th minute.

Rospa United retaliated in the 37th minute. Ndumeliso Mabulele sent a cross from the right corner and Mukhethwa Mukoma, who was in the perfect scoring position, beat the keeper with a half-volley.

United came close to scoring again in the dying minutes. Mukhethwa Mukoma could not believe his eyes when his volley went a little wide.
