The overall champions of the SAB League in the Vhembe Region will be determined at the Makwarela Stadium tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon.
That is where the teams which finished on top of their respective groups in the round-robin stages of the promotional play-offs will test each other’s strength.
United Artists and Joe Express made it to the final. United Artists' way to the final went via Tshibvumo Young Stars, whom they crushed 3-0 at the Malamulele Stadium in their opening match two weeks ago. Their second match was against Western Stars, with whom they played to a 2-2 draw at the Tshifudi Stadium. Their deciding match was against Muziafera Blue Eagles, whom they beat 2-1 at the Makwarela Stadium last Saturday.
Joe Express shared the spoils with Seven United Brothers in their opening match when they played to a 1-1 draw. They continued to pave their way to the final by beating Matsakali Sky Rangers 5-4 at the Tshifulanani Stadium on Saturday morning. Their Saturday-afternoon match was against Mukula Young Santos at the Makwarela Stadium and they played to a 2-2 draw. Their 6-2 victory against Maweja Takers secured them a place in the final after finishing the round-robin stage with eight points. They beat Mukula Young Santos on goal difference to proceed to the final.
It remains to be seen whether the Express strikers in Lenock Mabila and Thembisani Nevhulamba will manage to split the Artists’ defence, which is marshaled by Maduvha Mudologi and Jeffrey Mungoni.
The overall champions will take home a cash prize of R20 000 and a floating trophy. They will also take part in the provincial promotional play-offs, together with the champions from the districts in order to determine the two teams that will be promoted to the Safa second division.
