FC Basel have reason to celebrate

Last Saturday was harvest day for the teams that were campaigning under the banner of the Bindulavhathu KO competition during the past weeks. The prize-giving ceremony was held at the auditorium of Mbilwi Secondary School.

The champions of the competition, FC Basel, received R3 000, a floating trophy, gold medals and a soccer kit during the ceremony. The runners-up, Miluwani Happy Boys, went home with R2000, silver medals and a soccer kit.

Basel FC beat Miluwani Happy Boys 1-0 in the final to become the champions for the competition. Table New Comers, who finished the competition in the third spot, received R1 600, while the fourth-placed side, Dolphins, was presented with a cheque of R1 200.

Table New Comers crushed Dolphins FC 3-0 in their losers’ final match that was played at the Tshifulanani Stadium two weeks ago.

The teams that were booted out of the competition in the quarterfinal stage were each given R800. The teams are Tshidzini Happy Boys, Mutandani Pull Together, Makhuvha Fire Boys and Thukhutha.

Those who were knocked out of the competition in the last-16 stage, Millers, Tshififi, Fondwe Mighty Blues, Dimani Young Masters, Malamangwa Flying Swallows, Matangari Settlers, Mutuwa Brazilians and Maha Flying Gunners, were each given a consolation prize of R500.

During the ceremony, the vice-chairperson of the Bindulavhathu Furnishers board of directors, Mr AD Budeli, said that his company was happy to be associated with the Thulamela Local Football Association. Nearly 140 teams took part in the competition.
