Fhatuwani wins Mountain race

Fhatuwani Mudzanani won the Hyundai Mountain Race in a record time of 1:13:16 on Saturday.
Thompson Magagane of Polokwane Athletics Club ended in the second position in 1:15:15 and Sam Munyai of the Nedbank Athletic Club finished in third position (1:16:00).
The ladies category was won by Joyce Makwarela of Bonitas Athletics Club in 1:32:29, with ML Jennet of Fourways in second position (1:35:29).
Thompson Mbombi of Greater Elim Athletics Club was the first master's athlete to finish the race (1:34:16.)
The 10 km ladies race was won by Denga Mashavha, with veteran Amanda Kruger ending in second position. The third position went to an athlete from Polokwane, Hannelie Viviers. The first man to cross the finishing line in the 10km race was Livhuwani Netshaulu. Engedzani Muswobi finished the race in second position and XT Nkanayani was third.
The 5km race for girls was won by the 11-year-old Khuliso Nthangeni. She was followed by Tiny Masia (14), with Nyeleti Chauke (13) in third position. All three athletes are from Vhembe Athletics Club.
According to the manager of Hyundai in Louis Trichardt, Mr Hamid Karim, they will continue, and possibly increase, the sponsorship. "The sponsorship is a token of appreciation for the support we are getting from our local communities," he said.
Mr Stanley Thompson of the local athletics club thanked Hyundai and others sponsors for their efforts to develop athletics in the rural areas.
