Lazy councillors to be dismissed

News  Date: 10 June 2011

Limpopo Premier Mr Cassel Mathale has warned the newly appointed councillors and mayors that the ANC in the province will get rid of them if they fail to deliver better services to the people who voted them into office.

Mathale was speaking at Polokwane last week, during the swearing in of new councillors and mayors to be deployed in various municipalities in the province.

“If you are unable to deliver better services to poor communities who voted you into your positions, you must vacate the office. Where councillors are not performing, the ANC will not hesitate to redeploy them, as we are serious about service delivery,” said Mathale.

The provincial chairperson of the House of Traditional leaders, Kgosi Setogelo Makgeru, has welcome the deployment of councillors and urged them to work well with traditional leaders, so that the delivery of services can reach all the people. “We as traditional leaders are ready to work well with newly appointed councillors for development of rural areas. We urged Premier Mathale when he opened this year’s house of traditional leaders at Tshakhuma that we want to be actively involvement in rural development,” said Makgeru.
