Those with New Year's resolutions to live a healthier lifestyle and lose weight this year, and all those who have been trying without success, will be elated to hear that a Run/Walk For Life Programme is set to open on 9 January.
“There is such a need and demand for this programme. This is a programme for the whole family; children are also welcome. All members will be supervised and monitored,” says Wynanda Pretorius , who has the local agency for Run/ Walk For Life and has undergone all the necessary training.
Members will walk on the town rugby field, while advanced walkers will go out on the road under the supervision of road leaders. Sessions will be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 17:15 onwards.
“The main purpose of the programme is weight loss and fitness. People often walk on their own and never really lose weight. Our fitness and weight-loss programme is scientifically and medically formulated and has shown positive results,” says Wynanda.
The programme accommodates people of all ages and fitness levels and has proven health advantages, such as the lowering of cholesterol, high blood pressure and reduced levels of stress and anxiety.
During the first month, and depending on the fitness level of the member, the duration of the exercise can be from 5 minutes to 25 minutes per session. It gradually increases according to a scientific formula, so that the progress is neither too fast nor too slow. The maximum exercise time on the highest level is 70 minutes.
