Sex during church

In a bizarre case, a 38-year-old mother and her son from Gutu village outside Beit Bridge have left the local community in a state of shock, after they were caught being intimate during a night prayer vigil.

The woman and her 18-year-old son appeared in court last Monday, facing charges of incest. They appeared before a local magistrate, Mr Nyasha Vhitori, and the case was postponed to 18 September for trial. The two were released from custody.

The prosecutor, Mrs Agatha Gabriel, told the court that on an unknown date, sometime in July this year, the woman allegedly coerced her son into having sex with her and he consented. The court further heard that the two’s illicit sexual encounters, which are believed to have started in April this year, came to light sometime last month.

It is said the two would normally commit their sordid act during night prayer vigils. On the day of the alleged incident, the two were caught by two minors, who were attending a church service at a local business centre. The court was told that after the youngsters had caught them red-handed, they reported it to the elders who were at the church service. The elders went to the scene and the two were found “in the act.”

The church elders reported the issue to the local village head, who summoned them to his homestead and later reported it to the police.
