Two months ago, the manager of Elim Spar Supermarket, Mr Henk Jacobs, promised the champions and the runners-up for the Elim Spar KO competition, Muwaweni Lucky Stars and Rivoni Home Defenders, soccer kits.

The ceremony during which the kits were handed to the clubs was held at the store last Saturday afternoon. Jacobs said that he was impressed by the manner in which the competition was run. He indicated that they would continue to sponsor the competition in the coming years and that the sponsorship would increase from time to time.

He described the sponsorship a token of appreciation for the unwavering support which they are getting from the local communities.

Nineteen teams affiliated to the Hlanganani Stream of the Makhado Local Football Association took part in the competition. Muwaweni Lucky Stars were crowned the champions of the competition. They beat Rivoni Home Defenders 6-5 in the final.

The winner was determined through penalty shootout, after the teams scored one goal apiece during the regulated time. Mpheni Hungry Lions finished the competition in the third spot while Waterval United obtained the fourth posi-tion.

Lucky Stars received a floating trophy and a cash prize of R3 000, as well as the soccer kit which they were presented with. The general secretary of the Makhado Local Football Association, Mr James Maluleke, appealed to other businesspeople to follow the example of Elim Spar.
