Vhembe District Mayor Florence Dzhombere has lashed out at lazy councillors and officials.
Addressing a recent gathering during the National Water Week celebration held at Sheshe village outside Thohoyandou, Dzhombere said she was concerned that the function started late because of councillors and officials who arrived late.
"It is very disturbing that there are councillors who are not respecting the positions that they earned through votes from the people. They were elected by the same people they are undermining by neglecting their jobs. It is disturbing to see a councillor, who can use the excuse of not knowing where Sheshe is as the reason for arriving late. The same people do not get lost when they come for votes," she added.
She mentioned that "these people are shaming the ANC, which put them into these seats through the votes of the people. This thing of neglecting your job is becoming a norm and it must come to an end," she mentioned.
Speaking on behalf of Chief Muthuhathonwi Rammbuda, Solomon Nduvheni also apologised for arriving late. He also appealed to Dzhombere to help in speeding up the process of installing the new chief of Dzamba. The new chief will replace Mmbengeni Ramabulana, who has passed away in 2001.
Nduvheni also urged the mayor to provide a tar road for the community before 2014. During rainy days, the community of Dzamba gets isolated from other areas because of slippery roads, he added.
