Young people must be “light in the world”

It was a memorable event when several hundred youths from the Theocentric Christian College came together with the Canadian Smithville High School to bring praise to the Lord.

This event took place at the Apostolic Faith Mission’s Klein Letaba Centre in Nkuzana from Thursday to Saturday last week.

Smithville High School has been sending a team of students and adults of the Theocentric Christian College every other year as part of a 10-year partnership between the two schools. Currently, two of Theocentric’s students are studying at Smithville High as part of this agreement.

Each praise-giving session was opened by youth pastor Sipho, followed by spirited praise songs. Afterwards, students from both schools joined in singing and dancing. The Canadians in turn treated the Theocentric students with biblical dramas each afternoon, followed by an inspirational address by their teacher, Mr Gordon Park.

Park especially emphasized that  we are all treasures of Jesus Christ and encouraged the youth to stand up for what is right. For this he used the Biblical example of the three friends of Daniel who refused to bow down to an idol.

In his parting message, Park challenged the students to bring heaven to earth by following the example that Jesus Christ had laid out for his followers. “God wants young people to be a light in the world, to win over others with the love of Jesus, to act as He did in all circumstances,” said Park.

During the three days, students were also given the opportunity to testify and share what it means to them to be a Christian. The students from Canada will visit the Kruger National Park this week before returning home.
