It’s now official: Dynamos have been relegated to the Vodacom Promotional League. This after they suffered a humiliating 2-7 defeat at the hands of Carara Kicks at the Charles Mopedi Stadium in Phuthaditjaba on Sunday afternoon.

Although they knew before the game that nothing less than a victory would save them from relegation, the players of Dynamos approached the game as if there was nothing at stake.  Braces from Luyolo Nomandela and Moeketsi Mvulo helped Kicks get the three points, while Mpho Mvelase, Tsepiso Motaung and Luvuyo Kelepu also scored for Kicks.

Thanda Royal Zulu and the National First Division rookies, Chippa United, will contest in the promotional play-offs after victories on the final day of the season. Royal Zulu beat the league champions, University of Pretoria, 1-0, to finish third in the standings, thanks to Peter Nwandike’s 86th minute goal.

Chippa United also secured their play-off spot after beating FC AK 4-0 at the Eldorado Park Stadium. The home team was reduced to 10 men after Nkayiso Zondi was shown a straight red card for a late tackle on James Skhosana in the 14th minute. It was a difficult Sunday afternoon for Blackburn Rovers, whose 0-1 defeat to Bay United saw them drop out of the play-off places.

Mpumalanga Black Aces also survived relegation with a 1-0 win over FC Cape Town. Lotie Prince was the hero of the day as his strike in the 40th minute earned his side the three vital points. David Radebe scored a brace when his side, United FC, beat Witbank Spurs 3-0. Mahau Motumi scored the third later in the game.

Although they were already relegated before playing the game, Atlie FC fought hard to share the spoils with Vasco da Gama, with whom they played to a 1-1 draw. Sevutsa Stars were beaten 2-3 by African Warriors to move down into 12th place.

Dynamos will now join teams like Giyani Hotspurs, Basel FC and Nobela All Stars in the Vodacom Promotional League.
