Magezi FC suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Phungo All Stars in a Vodacom League match in Eltivillas on Saturday.

The first half was characterised by wasted chances, with Stars dominating proceedings. Karabo Selabe, a midfielder for Magezi, was booked for an illegal tackle on Lutendo Mulaudzi. Ivan Mahangwahaya was unlucky when his volley hit the crossbar and bounced out of play for a goal kick.

Stars enjoyed more ball possession, but they could not penetrate the rock-solid defence of Magezi. No goals were seen during the first half.

The centre forward of Stars, Hulisani Muthungwana, went into the referee's book, following dangerous play on Alfred Laka. Calvin Thantsha later lost his original fighting spirit and consequently the whole defence started to leak. The host side capitalised on the setback to score their opening goal.

Ivan Mahangwahaya received a neat pass from Sifiso Masha and released a half volley that looked too hot for the opponents' keeper to handle. Magezi equalised from a free kick when Matsa Mankoane hit the back of the net. The winning goal of Stars was scored by Hulisani Muthugwana from a free kick shortly before the final whistle.
