MUSINA – Following the untimely death of her son a fortnight ago, Mrs Gladys Manyathela says her only wish is to see his team prosper, while producing good players like him, Lesley "Slow Poison" Manyathela.

Manyathela, also a Buccaneer fan long before her son joined Pirates, said "it was always my son's wish to see his team, Manyathela FC, producing good players, who can also play for PSL."

The late Manyathela (son) formed Manyathela FC in 2000, immediately after he joined Pirates. The team is now playing in the Solly's sponsored league, affiliated to the South African Football Association, North-East Region. They are also playing in black and white gear, quite similar to that of Pirates.

Mrs Manyathela, who helped to run the team with the salary she earns as a nurse, said she wanted assistance to take the team where her son wanted it to be. Manyathela's uncle, Reason Maanda, who is the team's coach, said Manyathela was planning to invite Pirates to come and access players from his team. "I strongly believe that if Pirates or any PSL team can come here, they can get three or four players, who can be good than Lesley," he said.

"My nephew was planning to invite Pirates to come down here before the end of the year. He knew we have good players. I wish Pirates can fulfil his wish," said Manda.

Meanwhile, the Musina Municipality is to rename Skoonplaas Stadium after Manyathela. The stadium, situated at Skoonplaas, where Manyathela grew up, is going to be called the Lesley Manyathela Soccer Stadium.
