POLOKWANE – The unexpected happened when the newly promoted Highlandspark Silver Stars held Black Leopards to a 1-1 draw, in their first Castle Premiership League match that was played at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday.

Leopards enjoyed more ball possession in the opening minutes, but failed to capitalise on it. Surprise Moriri, the Stars' killer-striker, missed a scoring opportunity when the he received a neat pass from December Ngobeni and shot a little wide in the 14th minute.

The Leopards keeper, Walter Khumalo, made his presence felt when he brilliantly saved a groundcutter from the boot of Surprise Moriri. Two of Leopards' players, Duncan Lechesa and Wonder Nhleko, were booked for rough tackling in the 40th and 44th minute respectively.

Lidoda Duvha effected two changes to their original line-up in the last half. They introduced Naughty Mokoena and Nkhiphitheni Matombo for Nhlanhla Mathebula and Richard Lishivha. Leopards took the leadership in the 50th minute. They were awarded a corner kick that was taken by Christopher Netshidzivhe. Wonder Nhleko headed home after a scramble for the ball within the box.

Silver Stars revealed their wisdom by introducing Brian Van Wyk for Edward Williams. They later replaced Moris Chauke with Byala Mushadu. Leopards responded by bringing on Cavin Mushangazhike for Mulondo Sikhwivhilu. Surprise Moriri scored the equaliser after a square pass from Brian Van Wyk in the 85th minute.
