Well-know local vet-eran runner Jane Mudau of Nedbank Athletics Club was once again the first lady home, this time in the women’s category of the 15th annual Soutpansberg Mountain Race held in Louis Trichardt on Saturday, January 24.
Jane ran the 21km race in 01:44:12. In second place was Rabelani Denga of the Thohoyandou Athletics Club, with Monica Erasmus of Polokwane in third place.
The overall winner of the race was Nditsheni Mathobo, also of the Nedbank Athletics Club, who ran the 21 kilometres in 01:16:29. Fhatuwani Mudzanani of the Mvudi Athletics Club was second, with team mate Sam Munyai third.
Thomas Ngobeni of Soutpanberg athletics club won the men’s veteran category in 01:22:18.
The ladies category of the fun walk was won by Madi Makhadi, followed by Rine Naudé. Third place went to Corné Thompson. The men’s category was won by Thikhathali Libago. All the winners won trophies and cash prizes, while every athlete who completed the race also took home a free T-shirt. The trophy for best water point went to Laerskool Louis Trichardt.
The race organizers afterwards thanked all the athletes who competed, with a special word of thanks towards their main sponsors Coca-Cola Fortune, Pick ‘n Pay Louis Trichardt and M Premjee & Son.
Kaizer Nengovhela started writing stories for Limpopo Mirror in 2000. Prior to that he had a five year stint at Phala-Phala FM as sports presenter. In 2005 Kaizer received an award from the province's premier as Best Sports Presenter. The same year he was also nominated as Best Sports Reporter by the Makhado Municipality. Kaizer was awarded the Mathatha Tsedu award in 2014.
