Phumudzo Shakes Mbedzi (24) has released his debut CD and DVD titled To God be the Glory.

Shakes’ new gospel album is good quality

A celebrated local gospel musician, Phumudzo Shakes Mbedzi (24) of Khubvi village has warned people not to measure him by simply looking at his height.

“My height is not a factor, what matters is the quality of the music that I’m offering to my loyal fans. Most people do not take me seriously when they simply look at me, but I immediately prove them wrong when I do my miracles on stage.”

Simply known as Shakes by his fans, Phumudzo studied broadcasting engineering after completing his Grade 12 in 2010. “I am a full-time musician, but I know that I will have something to depend on whenever I decide to take a break in my music. I therefore encourage young people who want to venture into the music industry to seek an education first. They will also have something to fall back on if their music careers are not doing well.”

Shakes has just released his debut CD and DVD titled To God be the glory, which was recorded live at the Rhema Kingdom Life Church in Tshifulanani. The album is doing well and it has already started receiving massive airplay on community, regional and national radio stations. “I am very happy and proud of the way in which my CD and DVD are being received by my fans out there. This is a true reflection that my music is matured and it appeals to all age groups.”

He explains how his music career kicked off; “I started as a dancer and backing vocalist for several artists and groups around Vhembe. My music doors were opened when I collaborated with Worship House and Lufuno Dagada. After each performance, impressed fans asked me to record my own album. I finally bowed to the pressure and recorded this one.”

The new album, which was marketed and distributed by Adispot Music, comprises of 15 thrilling songs which include hits like He loves me so, Ri a u renda Murena, Mighty God, God Who Answers Prayers, Dora la Mudzimu, Lamb of God, Yehova Randalamo, Muhali, Murena wa Marena, Ha yo Mathata, Phaphamani, Glory, The Lord’s Prayer and U fulufhelo langa. The songs were jointly composed by Shakes himself, Wanga Mukwevho, Itani Mphaga and Tiyani Maluleke.

For CD’s, DVD’s and public performances, Shakes can be contacted at 071 290 0048.
