Khathu's latest song captivate fans

Khathutshelo Dzaga from Thohoyandou Block G, known as Khathu within music circles, has captivated her fans with her latest song, “Muvhonetsheli”. The song is a collaboration with Uber Black and features Racha Kill. The song is in Khathu’s familiar style, often described as a mixture of amapiano and Afro-beat.

Khathu said that her latest song was the first to receive such an exceptional response, compared to several other songs and one EP titled “Private Code” that she has released. “The song is an expression of a person deeply in love, conveying to their partner that without them, the world is a dark place and they are the light. I am so happy that my fans are enjoying it so much, and this is one of my songs that has garnered significant engagement based on streams, which keeps on increasing,” she said.

Khathu’s music journey started around 2008 during her time at Tshikevha Christian School. During these singing sessions, her schoolteacher recognised her talent, prompting her to take centrestage.

“That’s when I knew I could sing, having been a poet before then. In 2011, I met musician Lutroo Da Music, who encouraged me to record my own music. With the writing skills I had acquired while crafting poetry, I began releasing my own music,” she said.

Khathu discussed some of the challenges she faces as an emerging female artist, emphasising the difficulty of securing gigs. “Most female artists are sidelined in the booking process, which is a big problem,” she said.

She asked her fans to watch out for her new single, which she is working on and is expected to be released on 26 April.

Thembi Siaga
