Mfumadi ready for higher honours

The Muduluni-born, multi-award winning body builder Absolom Mfumadi will take part in the National Amateur Bodybuilders’ Association (NABBA) championship qualifications in Durban on 10 October.

He told Limpopo Mirror that he had spent tireless weeks preparing for the contest and that his eyes were set on the positive side of qualifying. “This is to qualify for the NABBA World Championships to be held on 7 November in Pretoria,” he said.

At least 21 countries are expected to participate in the NABBA World Championships. “So I am working tirelessly to dominate the Durban stage in the national championships and make sure I get to Pretoria, where I will represent our country,” he said. “I hope to achieve top position to make the SA NABBA team.”

He indicated that the journey of a bodybuilder was no small feat. He said hard work and strenuous exercising placed a bodybuilder in a good position to win all the way to the top. “You also need to study your field, know all the pros and cons of your career,” he said.

Those interested in Absolom can like his Facebook page “The Only Abs of Steel”. The page will be updated regularly during the championship journey. “People will access ongoing health and training tips on my page, free of charge,” he said.

Mfumadi, who ascribes his success and achievements to hard work and striving for the best in a career that demands more discipline and determination, says that he will continue to do his job and motivate young people.

As a youngster growing up in Muduluni village, Mfumadi would get comments from his peers that he had strong muscles. He also was fascinated by hero characters with big muscles, such as Mr T and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Today, Mfumadi has pursued his love of bodybuilding and he is happy about his journey. “Bodybuilding is a tough sport which requires discipline to continue training hard and always perfecting the body,” he said. “Bodybuilding is a lifestyle, it’s not something which a person takes for a hobby.”
