New local boxing sensation Mashudu Ramakuela, who plies her trade under the banner of the newly formed TT Boxing Promotions, is ready to conquer her next opponent.

TT Boxing promotions was formed under the leadership of a former beauty queen, Ms Tanya Muungulwa.

Ramakuela (21) of Tshitereke outside Thohoyandou will meet Maria Martins in a junior welterweight bout during a tournament in Gauteng tomorrow (Friday).

During a media briefing, Ramakuela said she would use the fight as a springboard to a national title fight that would take place soon. “I am ready. I am fit physically and emotionally, and with the support coupled with the training that I am busy with, there is no way my opponent can beat me. I promise to floor her in the second round; that is, if our plans materialise,” she said.

The girl, who turned professional in 2011, has won two of her four professional fights. She is a Grade 10 pupil at Muhuyu wa Thomba Secondary School.

Ms Muungulwa did not mince her words when she praised her charge. “This girl will go places. She is dedicated to her trade, and I see a lot of potential in her. She is the first girl in my stable and I see a bright future ahead for her. She is the next Laila Ali in the boxing industry,” Muungulwa said.
