Floor hockey team of Tshilwavhusiku qualify for Special Winter Olympics

Tshilwavhusiku Razwimisani Special School will represent South Africa in the World Special Oympics Winter Games in Austria next year. This came after they recently won the gold medal in the national floor hockey championship in Gauteng.

The coordinator of the Special Olympics in Limpopo, Mr Samuel Maduwa, said that they were  extremely proud of their athletes. "Everyone demonstrated the Special Olympics' spirit of being brave at every attempt and participating to the best of their ability." He added that children with disabilities must no longer be hidden in their homes, side-lined in society and treated as secondary citizens. "It is high time that everyone must join hands to ensure that children with disabilities have the same opportunities as other children."

He said that this was not the first time that a Limpopo team would represent South Africa on the world stage. In 2009, players of Tshilwavhusiku and Grace of Love participated in the USA and in 2013 Grace of Love went to South Korea.

Maduwa appealed to Good Samaritans to help the pupils of  Tshilwavhusiku Razwimisani Special School and sponsor their track suits for the 2017 Games in Austria. People interested can phone the coach, Ms Selaelo Thulare, at 076 7843 289.
