Madridtas bow out of Nedbank Cup

Madridtas FC will not take part in the top-16 stage of the Nedbank Cup KO Competition. Their journey in the competition was ended by D General FC, who beat them 2-0 at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Sunday afternoon.

The head coach of Madridtas, Mr Mashudu “Coolio” Ndou, described the team’s defeat as a bitter pill to swallow. According to him, Madridtas could have won the game by a wide margin, considering the fact that they were dictating terms throughout the game. Believing that they had lost the game after the team had managed to create so many scoring opportunities was hard for him. Ndou said that D General had been out of touch for most of the match and had been lucky to convert two of the only three chances they had created in the game.

Ndou criticised Madridtas’ strikers, who simply could not find the back of the net, but stopped short of blaming the defeat on individual players. “As a former professional player, I know that it does happen in football sometimes,” he said. He said that they regarded the defeat as water under the bridge and that they would now focus on their league programme.

Ndou’s counterpart from General FC, Mr Tshepo Motsoeneng, concurred with Ndou’s sentiments. According to him, Madridtas has the potential to go places with their current squad. General’s opening goal came via Collen Sikhosana three minutes before the end of the first half. Timothy Makhetha scored the second in the 49th minute. General were playing defensive football throughout the last half.
