Black Leopards must beat Casric Stars to stay in title race

After a break of about 10 days, the teams affiliated with the Motsepe Foundation Championship will be in action again this weekend. Two matches will be played on Friday afternoon, followed by four on Saturday, while the remaining two are scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

After playing two home matches in a row, Black Leopards are bracing themselves for a tough encounter. They will undertake a journey to Siyabuswa in Mpumalanga. Their match against Casric Stars will be played at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium. A win for Black Leopards is likely to push the team from eighth to fifth position on the log standings.

Lidoda duvha will be without their Ivorian killer striker, Jean Golly, on Saturday. He was given his marching orders in their game against Platinum City Rovers at the Thohoyandou Stadium two weeks ago. The Thohoyandou side will pin their hopes on their Namibian goal poacher, Bethuel Muzeu, and the team’s diminutive striker, Donald Mudau, for goals in the absence of Golly. Mudau scored a hat-trick in their game against Platinum City Rovers.

Leopards’ right back, Tshepo Matsimbi, will be available for selection on Saturday. Matsimbi watched the team’s last two games from the grandstand after seeing red in their game against Milford FC at the Chatsworth Stadium in Durban on Tuesday, 19 December.

A quick glance at the head-to-head history of the two teams shows that Leopards are still to win a league match against Casric Stars. Lidoda duvha’s best result against Casric Stars was a 1-1 draw. Casric Stars are currently lying in the sixth spot on the log standings with 28 points, two better than Black Leopards.
