Further postponement for drag race driver

 

The man from Tshaulu, Mphedziseni Mawela, who stands accused of killing seven people and injuring three others during a so-called drag race, appeared in the Tshaulu Periodical Court on Tuesday.

Mawela (28)  faces seven charges of murder, three of attempted murder and of driving under the influence of liquor. He was granted bail of R2 000 in March after being released from hospital where he had been admitted after the accident. The case was postponed to 31 July for further investigations and his bail was extended.

It is alleged that on Saturday, 10 March, Mawela and an unknown man were drag racing when Mawela lost control of his vehicle and ploughed into a group of people at Tshidzini. Seven people lost their lives, while several others were injured.

The victims were Munei Munyai (12), Tsumbedzo Ravhanga (13), Vusiwana Rhangani (25), Thifhelimbilu Magaligwa (31), Kenneth Nemaungani (24), Wilson Ravhanga (71) and Daphne Mbedzi (26). Tendani Nephalama (2) was seriously injured in the accident.
