Leopards and Stars to rub shoulders in Coca-Cola Cup

THOHOYANDOU – Black Leopards regard their draw against Silver Stars in the Coca-Cola Cup KO competition as a blessing. The competition was officially launched during a glittering function that was held in Johannesburg on Monday.

According to the Leopards’ Public Relations Officer, Tshifhiwa Thidiela, they will use Silver Stars as a stepping-stone to the quarterfinal stage of the competition. He said that the fact that it will be an away fixture for them does not tell them that it will be difficult for them to proceed to the next stage of the competition.

The match will be played at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on the date still to be announced. Thidiela indicated that apart from the fact that there is a lot at stake in the competition, it is time for them to fulfill their promises. He said that they had promised the fans that they want to bring home some silverware this season and that this is their starting point.

History tells it all that Silver Stars had never beaten Black Leopards since their promotion to the elite league. Their most recent results was a 1-1 draw in their Castle Premiership League match that was played at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane three weeks ago.

New innovations have been added this year. A team will get R10 000 that should be given to an AIDS charity organization of their choice for each goal scored. There will be buses to ferry the fans to the various stadia free of charge while every fan at the game will get a free Coke.

The full draw for the competition is: Kaizer Chiefs vs Golden Arrows (Durban), Ajax Cape Town vs Dynamos (Giyani), Supersport United vs Bush Bucks (Pretoria), Wits University vs Manning Rangers (Johannesburg), Sundowns vs Orlando Pirates (Pretoria), Santos vs Jomo Cosmos (Johannesburg), Moroka Swallows vs Bloemfontein Celtic (Bloemfontein) and Black Leopards vs Silver Stars (Polokwane).
