New headman for Tshifudi village

 

Headman Thivhudzimunwe Collins Mashau was inaugurated as the new headman for Tshifudi Village during a ceremony at the Tshifudi Primary School´s sports grounds last Saturday.

Mashau (36) is the son of the late Ratshilumela Luvhone Andries Mashau, who passed away in 2008 after leading the village for 40 years.

Mashau was installed under the auspices of the Mphaphuli Royal Council and he took over from the acting headman, Mr Guda Mashau, who had been acting since the death of the late headman.

Tshifudi village is well known for the Musangwe indigenous boxing contest that takes place in the village every festive season. This has attracted people from as far as Johannesburg, making the village more popular around the country.

According to the Mashau familly spokesperson, Pastor Phillemon Mashau, the newly installed headman will also look at developing indegenous games like Musangwe in the village. "We are appealing to the community to continue working closely with the newly installed headman to develop the Tshifudi village," he said.

The ceremony was attended by, amongst others, members of Contralesa, a representative from the Premier´s Office, representatives from the South African Civic Organisation and councillors.

The headman of Vhurivhuri Village, Vhamusanda Vho-RR Sumbana, who installed the new headman on behalf of Chief Vho-Gole Mphaphuli, said that community members must respect the newly installed headman. He added that the newly inaugurated headman must focus on developing the village.
