Man stabbed to death in Beit Bridge brothel

A 21-year-old Beit Bridge man was stabbed fatally, following a dispute at a house that has been turned into a brothel in the Dulibadzimu suburb of Beit Bridge, police have said.

The acting officer in charge of the Beit Bridge Criminal Investigations Department, D/Insp Clifford Gore, said the incident occurred on last Wednesday at around 01:00 at the house, situated near the Dulibadzimu bus terminus.

“The victim was stabbed three times in the chest with a knife, following a dispute with the suspects, and he died instantly,” he said.

Gore said no arrests had been made, adding that police were continuing with investigations. “We have intensified our investigations and we are also appealing to community members to assist us with information that might possibly lead to the arrest of the suspects,” he said.

The deceased was identified as Lloyd Gundwani Moyo (21). His body was taken to a local private mortuary, pending a post-mortem. “We are still trying to locate the relatives of the now deceased and we are therefore appealing for assistance in that regard.”

Beit Bridge has been rocked by a series of murder cases occurring around Dulibadzimu suburb of late. The incident comes barely a week after another local woman was found dead at bushy area in the high-density suburb, after she was allegedly raped before being murdered. The suspects are still at large. Recently, a visiting Zambian woman was also murdered by a group of three knife-wielding suspects who had waylaid her at a bushy area near Beit Bridge District Hospital. The woman was being escorted by her relatives to the bus terminus, where she intended to board a bus.

The latest development has sparked outrage from local residents who are now calling on the local authority and police to jointly raid all brothels being operated in Dulibadzimu, saying they were the havens for criminals. “As residents, we are saying police should team up with the council and immediately descend on brothels as they are hideouts for these criminals. We are sick and tired of being terrorized by these criminals, including the people who harbour them,” said Mr Lameck Ndou, a local resident.

Criminal hot spots include Dulibadzimu bus terminus, the border post and along the Beit Bridge-Bulawayo Road, where criminals mainly target motorists.
