MOPANI – A resident of Hoedspruit Plaza, Mr Peter Ndlovu (25), will spend the remaining part of his life behind the bars. He was found guilty on two counts of murder when his case was finalized in the Phalaborwa High Court on Monday.

The case relates to an incident that took place in Hoedpruit during the night of February 17, 2003.

The court heard that, during the night of the incident, Ndlovu had proceeded to Mr Johannes Swart’s house. At that time, Mr Swart was sharing the same room with another man, Josef Greyling (19). On arrival, Ndlovu broke into the house, produced a firearm, short and killed the two inside the room.

He then stole a large quantity of liquor, a television set, clothes and a large amount of money that was kept inside the safe, before leaving the place. The police were notified about the incident the following morning. On arrival at the scene, the police discovered that both Swart and Greyling each had a bullet wound in the head.

Ndlovu was arrested after several weeks of intensive investigations. The case was remanded several times before it was finally laid to rest on Monday. He was found guilty on one count of housebreaking, two of murder, one of robbery, one of theft and the other one of the possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

He was sentenced to double life imprisonment for the killing of Greyling and Swart. The court further ordered him to stay in jail for 12 years for housebreaking. As if that was not enough, a further 15-year jail sentence was imposed on him for the robbery he committed.

For theft, he was sentenced to 10 years behind the bars while an additional four years imprisonment was also handed down. The court told Ndlovu that the only thing he can be proud of is the fact that the sentences will run concurrently. Ndlovu is originally from Zimbabwe.
