Makhado mayor launches housing project

The Makhado Park Housing project consisting of 271 stands was officially launched by the mayor of the Makhado Municipality, Cllr Glory Tsakani Mashaba at the project site at Makhado extension 8 last Thursday.

Phase one of the modern and unique housing project to be developed in three phases was opened for sale from 5 to 7 October and it is already sold out, according to Mr Martin Mahosi of Rendeals Four Consulting. He said that the second phase will be opened in mid-2007.

“This is a classical project situated in the corridor of the N1, fully fitted with kitchen and built-in wardrobes. This project is important, because it will provide housing to the people of Makhado and surrounding areas,” he said.

Mahosi, who left the provincial Department of Local Government and Housing last December, said that when Rendeals Four discovered that there was a shortage of housing at Makhado, they decided to build an affordable and mixed-development housing project.

“It is a mixed development project in the sense that it combines people with low-income and those at an upper-income level,” he said. Mahosi said that in phase one, there is an option of eight house plans to choose from with the starting price at R250 000 for a housing package. He said that the highest starting price is R800,000 for a housing package.

“We are still finalising the design of phase one and two,” he said.

During the launching, the mayor described the occasion as historical and a giant step towards transformation by the municipality and the private sector. “As a municipality, we fully support this initiative because we see no reason for keeping a piece of land while there are people who want to use it for development. This clearly indicates that this town is growing. While the masses of our people will be provided with roofs over their heads, we are committed to providing satisfactory services as they would be contributing enormously to our revenue. We won't let then down; there will be value for their money,” she said.

The mayor said that she hopes that the project will contribute significantly towards job creation to local unemployed residents. In wishing Rendeals Four good luck, Mashaba said that she further hopes that other businesspeople will join hands with the municipality in accelerating service delivery in order to achieve the dream of a better life for all the people during this “age of hope”.
