Sambandou United Professionals received R3 000, a floating trophy and a soccer kit during the prize-giving ceremony of the Mulindavhathu Soccer Challenge held at Khubvi Tshiseluselu chief’s kraal last Saturday afternoon.
Musasenda Big Five went home with R1 200 and a soccer kit. They obtained the second position in the tournament, while the third-placed Damani Powerlines were presented with R1 000. Mutale Vikings (fourth), received R800.
A local traditional leader, Thovhele Vho-Mulindavhathu Randima, indicated that the fact that he was the sponsor of the tournament did not mean that he had a lot of money. “It is the love of my subjects that makes me give a portion of my family's income back to them,” he said. He appealed to the other traditional leaders to invest in local activities, saying real leaders were passionate about the well-being of their subjects.
He reiterated the fact that he will continue to sponsor the tournament in coming years, with the sponsorship increasing over time.
Sixteen teams, viz. Tshibvumo Young Stars, Khubvi Peace Makers, Sambandou United Professionals, Ngwenani Manchester United, Mutale Vikings, Ficus FC, Mahagala Young Stars, Khubvi Feedas All Stars, Khubvi African Stars, Damani Powerlines, Thenzheni Liverpool, Musasenda Big Five, Tshilulu Mighty Mangoes, Phandulaluvalo, MT Green Mambas and Mutshini Masters, took part in the annual event.
