Tshivenda language research and development centre needs help

The Tshivenda Language Research and Development Centre was established in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture.

The centre has the following objectives:

- Effectively develop Tshivenda, one of the official indigenous languages, to ensure its public usage in such important fields as law, commerce, education, politics and science and technology.

- Collecting, promoting, recording, preserving, facilitating and nurturing initiatives that promote prolific writing in indigenous Tshivenda language by means of strengthening various writers’ associations.

At present, the Tshivenda Language Research and Development Centre is engaged in a project of documenting names of authors and their publications i.e. authors who wrote in Tshivenda. The authors are requested to submit the list of their publications to the Centre Manager, Tshivenda Language Research and Development Centre, University of Venda, Private Bag X5050, Thohoyandou, 0970, Fax 015-962-4749.

The list should include the following information: Name of the author; Year of publication; Title of the book; Type of genre; Place of publication/Where is the book published; Name of publishers.

After the completion of this project, the centre would take photos of different authors as well as the list of their publications and put them on the website of the centre and also compile a booklet of the Tshivenda authors and their publications. This would expose Tshivenda authors to the public. To succeed in this endeavor, the centre would like to request all Tshivenda authors to send the required information to the Tshivenda Language Research and Development Centre without delay.
