A Second album for Mpho Kharivhe

A peer-education volunteer of the Munna Ndi Nnyi men’s forum and a local artist would like to give a clear  message to young people that one should take time to know one’s partner before marriage.

Mpho Kharivhe (45) from Tshivhulani has just released his second CD, called Ngoho, a Tshivenda word which means “the truth”. Kharivhe is worried about the escalation in people who enter into marriage without knowing each properly and soon thereafter they want to get a divorce.

“This is exactly the warning on the track Mbingano asi mutambo. If you have known your partner for a while and then get married, it will be an everlasting union.”

He said that, through the track Tshelede Ndi Mavhulaise, which means (the lust for) money is the root of all evil, he wants to tell the people not to do everything for the sake of money. One can assist another without expectation of getting money in return. “If you like to do everything for money, one can end up in trouble, because (the lust for) money is the root of all evil. I understand some young girls are in love with old-timers because they will get money, instead of falling in love with boys of their own age,” he added. Kharivhe, the winner of a Tshivhase Dynasty Award as the best artist of the year in 2009, said he was excited that the new CD was selling very well. “In less than a month, I have already sold 4 000 copies of the CD. My fans like my music, because it is filled with important lessons.”

Kharivhe added that his CD featured reggae, afro jazz and gospel.  All songs are composed by Kharivhe, produced by Marcus Mundalamo and Itani Sihadi and recorded at Rwista Park Studios in Thohoyandou Unit E.
