Tallman finds new home at Vhembe FM

Local radio presenter Collen Siaga, popularly known as “Tallman”, has joined the team at Vhembe FM to host their reggae show on weekends, and he says he already feels right at home.

Siaga, who hails from Dzimauli in Mutale, worked at the revived Radio Thohoyandou for a few months. He started his new job at Vhembe FM on Saturday (20 January). Siaga presents a reggae show called "CBD Reggae Sound", which broadcasts from 12:00 to 15:00 on Saturdays.

For Siaga, radio has been a part of his life since childhood. “My grandfather, Mr Phalanndwa Murebe, used to have the radio tuned in to Phalaphala FM all the time, and I loved to listen to veteran presenter Mpho Nefale’s shows. That was where I started imitating him. Realising the talent I had, my grandfather encouraged me to follow broadcasting. Unfortunately, he is not with us anymore to witness the fruits of his toil and be proud of what I have achieved,” he said.

Siaga is not new to radio. Since 2004, he has had stints at Univen Radio, Nzhelele FM, and then at Thohoyandou FM. “This reggae show at Vhembe FM has become my new home. When I’m on air, I interact with listeners who call in to request beautiful tracks of their own choice, and I play it for them. The listeners also share their knowledge about the various genres of music. Of course, I also play music selected by our compiler, as well as a few songs of my choosing. The response from my listeners has been overwhelming since I started,” he said.
