World War II veteran invited to attend wreath-laying ceremony

A local World War II veteran, Corporal Simon Manzere (87), has been invited to attend the wreath-laying ceremony by the Mendi Memorial Committee. He left for Gauteng yesterday (Thursday). Manzere, from Mutshenzheni village, was posted for service on December 11, 1940, at the age of 22. He served in the Native Military Corps and was discharged on 27 October 1945.

Man shot dead in robbery drama

A 28-year-old man was shot and killed during an armed robbey at the Cocktrust settlement in the Calcata area on Sunday night. According to the spokesperson for the police in the Mopani area, Capt Maano Sadike, a group of gunmen had proceeded to the victim’s shop during the night of the incident.

Bodies of lovers found
