A Grade 11 learner from Vhulaudzi High School in Tshitavha returned with a silver medal from the SA High Schools Track and Field Championships held in the Western Cape earlier this month.
They did it! Louis Trichardt cyclists Kombo Bere and Daan Terblanche cycled across the finish line in Stellenbosch to complete their first-ever Absa Cape Epic on Sunday. This was a dream come true for both, but also a dream they had to fight for in a race considered to be one of the toughest mountain-bike races in the world.
Attractive cash prizes are at stake in the Lumveleni Easter Soccer Tournament, which was officially launched during a ceremony held at the Lumveleni Restaurant in Ngudza last Saturday morning. Sixteen teams from Thohoyandou and the surrounding areas will participate in the tournament.
Teams representing 16 villages from the Sinthumule and Kutama area will participate in the 15th edition of the Easter Soccer Challenge taking place this weekend. The event, organised by Mamu Community Development, was officially launched on Saturday in Louis Trichardt.
The Lesley Manyathela Stadium in Musina, which used to be the home of many teams playing under Safa Vhembe, has fallen into disrepair after the local municipality allegedly failed to maintain the facility for the past four years.

The team from Louis Trichardt have completed their fifth stage and look set to claim their first-ever Cape Epic finish on Sunday, provided their legs hold out.
When Black Leopards’ top striker, Bethuel Muzeu, joined Lidoda Duvha about two years ago, he saw this as the starting point of his dream. According to him, his childhood dream is to play for the Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs. During an interview with him, the Namibian international said that although he was currently playing for a team campaigning in the Motsepe Foundation Championship League, he was confident that he would see himself wearing Kaizer Chiefs’ colours one day.
With most of the teams affiliated with the Limpopo Stream of the ABC Motsepe League left with five matches to wrap up their league programmes for the current season, the struggle for promotion and to escape the relegation axe will continue this weekend. Two matches will be played on Friday afternoon, seven on Saturday, while only one is scheduled for Sunday.
Mr Itani Munzhelele, Venda Football Club (VFC)’s chairman, is adamant that the team will not be relegated to the lower division at the end of the season. Munzhelele admitted that the team had started the season on a bad footing, but said that the technical staff were working day and night to ensure that the team avoid the relegation zone.
